We’ve experienced a service interruption over the months of May & June 2019. The service will be re-started today.
YouTube Content ID is an important asset for song creators: it allows you to track down how your music is used on YouTube and you can generate an income out of the wrongful uses thanks to advertising. Though imperfect, it’s still the best tool on the market to protect & monitor how your music is used.
Because it’s so useful, when we have started this service we decided to open the YouTube Content ID program to all Jamendo artists, not just to those who had been pre-cleared for Jamendo Licensing.
Unfortunately, during this period our partner AdRev was notified of repeated infringing copyrighted samples sent to YouTube. As a consequence, AdRev had to temporarily suspend the scanning process.
We’ve been working over the last two months on a new, stricter moderation process allowing us to make sure that any similar situation does not happen anymore, be it for YouTube Content ID or any other program that we may create in the months to come.
As a consequence any track submitted to Jamendo will very shortly be scanned by a best-in-class automated audio recognition tool and in case of any doubt, the uploaded recording will be directly deleted from our platform. You’ll of course have the possibility to contest this decision and show that you have all the required authorizations. After this automated scan and whenever you submit a song for YouTube Content ID, we’ll have a second step in place where we’ll be manually reviewing all your submissions to suspend anything that our tool may have missed.
For those of you who play by the book, we apologize for the inconvenience. You won’t see any major difference in terms of swiftness of delivery of your songs to YouTube.
We’d like to use this opportunity to re-state that Jamendo is a platform made for the artists and by the artists: it’s a unique place of expression allowing you to spread your works over the entire world and to communicate them to a receptive audience of music lovers. There are not many rules or constraints for you as an artist: it’s free and you conserve all your rights. There is nevertheless one rule that needs to be respected: you must own all the rights of the content you upload: it’s not fair to take a sample from another artist without having acquired the rights. You cannot upload remixes. You cannot extract vocals from a famous song. You cannot cover a song without paying royalties to the original artist.
Jamendo is a place of creative expression where any original work has a place to shine. We all have a part to play in this and we count on you all to respect this one single and easy rule.
What happens next?
Please check your artist account and verify if you have to re-submit your works for YouTube Content ID. If that’s the case, it means that we had to remove your tracks temporarily from the YouTube Content ID program in order to be able to re-start the service for everyone. Please re-submit the concerned tracks and we’ll make sure to moderate them as swiftly as possible.
For any questions our team will be available, please simply address them here or on support@jamendo.com.
Thank you for your understanding & support,
The Jamendo Team,
Some best practices
- Whenever you use something in your tracks that hasn’t been created by yourself, whether it’s a loop or any kind of sample, please keep all the necessary documentation at hand (receipt, license, etc.).
- Whenever you purchase a sample, make sure to double check what the license conditions of the samples are.
- Do not purchase samples or loops from websites that do not inspire trust.
